High-performance boards & panels

Whether it’s for building a house, facade, interior spacing or furniture, there is a panel out there with the right qualities to match the job. Our wollastonites, micas and perlites all provide the right properties for boards used in the construction industry.

Our wollastonite and micas are excellent solutions for controlling thermal and dimensional stability and board integrity in fiber cement or silicate board applications. Our minerals can be used in cement boards to improve fire-resistance and stability in wet environments. When produced for wet rooms or fire-resistant applications, these boards have to meet strict dimensional stability performance criteria. Using specific mineral combinations, manufacturers can achieve dimensional stability performance requirements.

We recommended Nyad® G and Nyad® MG high aspect ratio wollastonites for their high temperature resistance, dimensional stability in wet-room and fire-resistant fiber cement board formulations. Suzorite® 20 S and Suzorite® 30 S low bulk density phlogopite mica improve thermal shrinkage and control hydric movement in fiber cement boards for wet room applications. Often both minerals are formulated together to create a synergetic effect in fiber cement boards.

Used in fiber cement board, our raw graded perlite, when expanded to a lightweight aggregate, provides unit weight reduction, higher thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, improved freeze-thaw resistance and fire resistance. During processing, it works as a bonding aid between the layers forming the board. We recommend our Harborlite® products for this application.

Fine ground calcium carbonate can be used as an additive in cement board to improve particle packing, which reduces permeability and efflorescence. We recommend our ImerFill™ grades for this application.

When it comes to adding metakaolin, we recommend our ARGICAL® range, which reduces porosity and efflorescence, increases strength and durability and improves the CO2 footprint when used as an additive to substitute specialty binders. The pozzolanic reactivity of metakaolin refers to its ability to react with calcium hydroxide which is formed during cement hydration.

Our TERNAL® range of calcium aluminates specialties binders are of great use for cement board, improving rapid hardening and drying during the process, avoiding shrinkage and developing durable final performances.
